Cospas-Sarsat are satellites involved in a partnership between several countries including the United States, Canada, and Russia. The Cospas-Sarsat satellites are search and rescue satellites in polar orbit. The first satellite in the Cospas-Sarsat system was launched in 1982, and by 1984 the system was operational.
